Kissing Towers

Kissing towers is inspired by two contrasting, and coexisting realities on the Chelsea area in New York. The character of place invites to a culture of artistic expressions being displayed in multiple galleries where the sense of luxury is everywhere. The other reality is tied to the people that work on the area. The variety of activities of these spaces tend to be tied to the socio-economic level of the individual.

What if those transitional spaces would become a merging point among the users instead of a reminder of their social and economic differences?

This project conceives those new spaces being created, as a growing organism that nourishes itself from the existing buildings located on the 11th Avenue, Chelsea.

Kissing Towers is a place for development.

A vertical campus that focuses on the experimentation of the use of robots with varied materials for artistic purposes. Robots are assumed as this next step in human interaction with their surroundings. Therefore, they become fundamental, in the process of creating art.

The “kiss” between the towers are marks of connection between shared spaces and a demonstration of affection between a place for growing, expression and its community.

It  is a call for the reconsideration of what the future relationship between humans and robotics might be. How architecture will reshape itself in order to respond to this, will also bring up questions about its response to human interaction when different typologies of users meet and transition spaces. It is in the intimacy of that transition and the desire for artistic expression creation and learning where these sculptural towers find their place.

Communal spaces, such as dinning areas, learning, teaching or recreational areas are the merging points for the towers.  The main entrance attempts to be this gathering space where human senses are surrounded by the presence of robotics working with varied materiality, wood and metal, for example.
